John Shumway, M.D.
Dr. John Shumway did his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University where he majored in piano performance. He went on to receive his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and pursued residency training at the University of North Carolina, where he was selected as Chief Resident in his 4th year of training and given the 2023 Roentgen Award from the Radiological Society of North America. He has extensive training in the use of multiple modalities, including SRS, SBRT, image-guided and adaptive radiotherapy, brachytherapy, and gel spacer placement. He has treated thousands of patients during his career and currently sees patients with many different types of cancer including breast, prostate, lung, head and neck, gastrointestinal, and gynecological cancers. He is a member of the American Medical Association and American Society for Radiation Oncology. He has many peer-reviewed publications in highly regarded oncology journals and has presented at multiple national meetings.
Outside of work, Dr. Shumway enjoys spending time with his wife and young children as active members in their local community and exploring the wonders of the greater Bay Area and the West Coast. In his free time, he can often be found playing the piano, volunteering with scouting and his local church group, backpacking, skiing, running, and cycling.
